Current Status

Updated June 14, 2021

As of Tuesday, June 15, 2021, the state of California and Contra Costa County will officially move from the Blueprint for a Safer Economy guidelines and eliminate color-coded tier systems. This change will mean far fewer restrictions including no physical distancing requirements and no capacity limitations for businesses. Masking will still be required for some situations and settings.

Fully vaccinated individuals are allowed without masks in most indoor settings. Unvaccinated individuals will still be required to wear a mask in indoor public settings and businesses including retail, restaurants, theaters, meetings, family entertainment centers and state and local government offices. Attendees of "mega events" will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative covid test result. Mega Events are characterized by large crowds greater than 5,000 (indoors) and 10,000 (outdoors) attendees.

EXCEPTIONS - Masks are still required for ALL individuals in these settings:

  • All public transportation including airplanes, trains, ships, subways, buses, ferries, taxis and ride shares, as well as all transportation hubs such as airports, bus terminals, etc.
  • All healthcare and long term care facilities
  • K-12 schools, childcare and other youth facilities
  • State and local correctional and detention facilities
  • Homeless & emergency shelters and cooling centers
