As the U.S. enters World War I a group of radical suffragists fight to win the right to vote. A diverse group of women struggle with managing personal and political challenges in creating social change. Period protest music weaves through the play dramatizing the suffragist’s political strategies.

Featuring the talents of: Alan Cameron, Zara Chastain, Marissa Clarke, Deborah Cortez, Phoebe Jones, Semhar Negasi, Maureen-Theresa Williams, Pam Drummer-Williams.

“Political protest was a dangerous proposition for any woman at that time, but especially for women of color. If you’re sick of seeing whitewashed depictions of women’s suffrage, Susan Sobeloff’s play with music promises a more enlightened take.” – Lily Janiak, SF Chroncle, October 5, 2017

“Strange Ladies” was developed by Central Works and premiered at the Berkeley City Club on October 14, 2017.

This production is timed to commemorate the passing of the 19th Amendment by the U.S. Congress. It is being cross-supported by numerous Women’s and Voters Rights organizations, along with educational institutions with Women and Gender programs.
