November, we are paying tribute to the two titans of modern Jazz, Miles Davis and John Coltrane
Born just months apart in 1926, Miles Davis and John Coltrane would become two of the most influential voices in Jazz. In the late 1950s, their paths converged at a pivotal moment—not only in their own development, but in the evolution of the music itself.
Together in Miles Davis’s legendary sextet, Miles and Coltrane stood at the crossroads between the driving language of hard bop and the emerging freedom of modal Jazz.
On recordings such as Milestones and Kind of Blue, dense chord changes increasingly gave way to open harmonic spaces, creating room for a new kind of improvisation.
Miles responded with economy, lyricism, and space. Coltrane pushed in another direction, filling that space with searching lines, harmonic intensity, and an ever-expanding musical vocabulary.
Their convergence helped open a door. Miles would continue exploring space, sound, and reinvention, while Coltrane would push toward greater harmonic, rhythmic, and spiritual freedom.
What began on a shared bandstand became two distinct journeys that would transform the course of modern Jazz.
Join The Muse Jazz Collective as we celebrate 100 years of Miles and Trane on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 8, 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm.
Looking forward to seeing you then!
