There are many activities, places and sites to see during a visit to Concord. Whether your family likes to eat, adventure or relax, Concord has something for everyone.

1. Take a Hike

Get active as you hike up the highest peak in the Bay Area. Mt. Diablo is well worth the trek because the view at the top, is one you won’t ever forget, highlighting all of Contra Costa County. The top of the mountain is the perfect spot to stop and talk, take a picture, have a snack and enjoy each other’s company.

For a closer and shorter hike visit Lime Ridge Open Space. This short three-mile loop is filled with both hills and flats making it a family friendly activity. While hiking, experience views of Mt. Diablo and the city of Concord. Once at the top, stop at the hiker’s bench, take a rest and take in the beautiful views of the Bay Area.

2. Visit Markham Arboretum

The Markham Arboretum is a hidden gem in Concord and the perfect spot to have a family picnic. With over 2.4 miles of trails you can take a walk while enjoying the beautiful nature in Concord. People who visit for the first time are surprised that such a lovely, natural park exists inside the city limits. The Markham is unique among local parks as the emphasis is on quiet discovery.

The serene setting includes a very active nursery stocked with the unique, unusual, and whimsical plants and staffed by people including landscapers, arborists, native plant enthusiasts and master gardeners.

3. Eat

Nothing brings family together like food and Concord is full of it. With over 25 different cuisines to choose from in Concord, you will find something delicious the whole family will love.

4. Todos Santos Plaza

Downtown Concord is the place to be. This hopping downtown is the perfect spot to take the family to eat, hangout and enjoy beautiful weather. With over 20 restaurants to choose from, Todos Santos plaza features many cuisines including Korean, American, Mexican, Peruvian and even German all family friendly. There is also a playground perfect for the kids, and a gaming center with laser tag and more, Qzar.

6. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor

Splash around and enjoy the beautiful weather Concord has to offer in the summer at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor. There is something for the whole family including water slides, the lazy river, food and drinks and cabanas for relaxation. Hurricane Harbors newest attraction, Splashwater Island is a colossal and cutting-edge interactive water play area. The mammoth, multi-level, four-story play structure with more than 100 features, covering more than a fifth of an acre will keep families entertained all summer long. Guests will climb up ladders, splash down nine open and enclosed slides, and navigate varying platforms and net structures.

7. aRt Cottage

aRt Cottage is the coolest little art gallery just off the square in downtown Concord, California. This intimate venue provides a comfortable environment for artists and art aficionados to enjoy monthly shows. This cute cottage is the perfect place to take the family. You might even be able to see an artist live at work when you stop by.

8. Hit the Movies

Concord is lucky enough to have three great movie theatres depending on your preference. The West Wind Drive-in makes the movie theatre experience fun for everyone. Set up your chairs, blankets and snacks and cuddle up to your loved ones as you enjoy the show. The Luxe IMAX Theatre is all about the action. This theatre features IMAX movies and has a full menu and bar so you can enjoy food and drinks while you watch. The Brenden Theatre is a classic that has newly renovated recliner seats and delicious snacks.

9. Sunvalley Shopping Center

Not only is Concord’s only mall great for shopping, there are also plenty of family friendly activities to do while you visit. Round One has bowling, video games and food, perfect for a family outing. The Sunvalley Shopping Center also features characters like Santa and the Easter bunny for some Holiday fun.

10. Live Music

Dance around and spend quality time with your family while you listen to some great live music. The City of Concord hosts music and the market every summer during the farmers market. Bring a chair and dance the night away with your fellow community. The Veranda Shopping Center also hosts live music on Wednesday nights right in the middle of the fountain plaza. Watch the bands play on the stage and sing and dance to colorful lights.

11. Ice Cream Trail

When it comes to dessert, Concord takes the cake. From milkshakes to cookie dough and everything in between, Concord is the best place to treat yourself with your family. Enjoy ice cream shops like Loard’sCreamPop Bar Gelato on a StickOut the Dough and so much more.
