In our next digital premiere on YouTube, Thursday March 4th, at 7:30pm, we celebrate music from Mexico and Brazil - intense, passionate, lyrical, rhythmic, and humorous! Our 2016 collaboration with El Mariachi Alegre will be our featured performance, along with orchestral works by composers Arturo Márquez and Heitor Villa-Lobos. The Diablo Symphony percussion section will also perform works including music by Ney Gabriel Rosauro. Music Director Matilda Hofman will catch up with El Mariachi Alegre founder Esteban "eSteve" Zapiain; DSO percussion principal and personnel manager Robert Hamaker; and former DSO assistant conductor John Masko.

El Mariachi Alegre, directed by Esteban Zapiain, has performed with Los Lupeños at Yerba Buena Gardens in San Francisco as well as the Mexican Heritage Plaza in San Jose. It has also performed for schools, churches, Dia de los Muertos, and holiday functions throughout the Bay Area. The group brings experiences from Mexican music, American music, the members' faith traditions, rock, jazz, country, classical, ballet, Broadway, and opera. Our concert features a world premiere of "Canta y No Llores", a medley of mariachi songs arranged by Zapiain for Mariachi band and orchestra.
