If you haven’t had the pleasure of trying a pupusa (a thick cornmeal patty stuffed with beans, cheese, meat — or all three!) then you must make a stop at Restaurante El Salvador. Their warm, savory pupusas are accompanied by curtido, a spicy cabbage slaw that balances well with the hearty, comforting pupusa. If you’re looking to experience a variety of authentic Salvadoran flavors, order the Antojitos Tipicos, a sampler plate with generous portions, including a pupusa, tamal, empanada, fried plantains, carnitas and fried yucca. Delicious, but filling, so don’t overdo it on the complimentary chips and salsa!
