Kids’ Guide to Holiday Fun in Concord

Winter break is a great time to be a kid, especially when there are so many fun things to do right here in Concord! Check out these ideas for keeping kids entertained and engaged over the holidays.

  • Santa’s Flight Academy (November 7 – December 24) - Kids look forward to Santa's Flight Academy at Sunvalley Shopping Center each year where they get to help Santa navigate his sleigh as a real member of his flight crew.
  • Ice Skating at the Veranda (November 8 – February 17) - For a classic holiday experience, there’s nothing quite like gliding across glistening ice to the sound of Christmas music. Conveniently located at the shopping center, Ice at The Veranda is an easy way to start a special family tradition.
  • Contra Costa Con (November 10, 10am-4pm, Clarion Hotel) Comic and Lego fans won’t want to miss the debut of Contra Costa Con, a one-day event featuring characters, costumes, toys and collectibles, along with special guest Walden Wong.
  • Kids Run at the Turkey Trot (November 28, 7:40am)Concord’s 5th Annual Turkey Trot takes place at Todos Santos Park and features a special Kids’ dash at 7:40am (just prior to the main event at 8:00am.)
  • Santa Comes to Buchanan Airport (December 7, 10am) - Kids will be super-excited to see Santa as he makes his grand entrance flight into Buchanan Field Airport. The event is free and kids wishing to take a photo with Santa are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item and/or donation for the local Food Bank. Learn More
  • Tamales & Bike Fest (December 7, 3pm-7:30pm) – The annual Tamales & Bike Fest is a fun event where kids can decorate their bikes, take selfies and enjoy some tasty tamales with friends before the tree lighting ceremony at Todos Santos Park.
  • Tree Lighting & Singing (December 7, 4pm-7pm) – Kids love this special hometown tradition at Todos Santos Park. The Concord Tree Lighting and Singing festivities start with Santa’s grand entrance at 4pm and continue as everyone gathers to count down the spectacular, ceremonial lighting of the tree. Later, they can join in the Mayor’s Annual Sing-Along.
  • Indoor Fun – If it’s cold or rainy outside, kids might enjoy expending some energy at one of these high-octane venues:
